About Us

What began as a vision to empower individuals through education grew into a mission-driven adult education program dedicated to transforming lives and strengthening our community. Our program was founded on the belief that every person deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and build a brighter future—regardless of their past educational experiences or life circumstances.

Recognizing the need in our community for an ESL (English as Second Language) program a group of dedicated members of our community came together for a common cause.  Many of the librarians in San Patricio County were being asked by their patrons for opportunities to learn English.

The founding members of the San Patricio County Adult Literacy Council came together to provide an opportunity for adult literacy.  What started with a passion for helping others has evolved into a welcoming learning environment where students are empowered to reach personal, academic, and career goals.  The program then led to offering a GED program.  Adult learners were seeking support, encouragement and practical learning opportunities for adults seeking a second chance at education.

Through dedicated instructors, community partnerships, and a commitment to lifelong learning, we strive to remove barriers to education and create pathways to success. We believe education changes not only individuals, but families and entire communities.

Today, our program continues to serve adult learners with compassion, excellence, and purpose—helping students gain confidence, achieve their GED, improve literacy skills, prepare for employment, and pursue new opportunities for the future.  We are changing lives through literacy!

Our Mission

To provide an opportunity for further growth to those adults wishing to improve their basic listening, speaking, reading, writing, and/or mathematical skills needed to solve problems encountered in daily life.
